Step 1 (Obtaining a Real Estate Salesperson License):

  • Be at least 18 years of age or older
  • Complete MREC approved pre-licensing course 40 hours in a classroom/online
  • Pass examination included FREE with the online course
  • Pass the state exam, Administered by PSI  -- Click here for testing locations
  • Complete Application including:
    • Completed application form
    • Required fee
    • Broker’s signature
    • Be of good moral character
  • If you hold a license currently or in the past in another state you will need a current letter stating that you are in good standing with the real estate commission of that state

Beginning December 1, 2007, BEFORE being eligible to register for the licensing examination all salesperson applicants MUST apply for licensure on-line at www.michigan.gov/iCOLA.

Step 2 (After Obtaining a Salesperson OR Broker License):

  • Complete continuing education requirement of 18 hours every 3 years INCLUDING 2 hours of Michigan real estate law
  • In the past, licensees needed to take 6 hours EVERY year, but as of 2007, licensees only need to complete the 18 hours (including 2 hr law course) every 3 years.  There is no longer an annual requirement!
